This is the actual plate and screws they took out of Dane's leg yesterday and here is the x-ray taken just before surgery.
Dane had the plate taken out of his leg yesterday. The surgery went well. His bone had grown over the plate a bit so the doctor had to break away some bone and polish up some rough edges. As a result Dane is in more pain than expected and will be on crutches for at least 2 weeks rather than the 3 days that we had been told. Once again, he is a trooper and endures cheerfully. He came home last night and with the help of meds slept fine. We are hoping this is the beginnin of final healing and he will be back to full activity. We have been very blessed to have the medical help he needed. He has become to me my own little Joseph Smith--patiently enduring with brothers helping out and spending years recovering. He is an amazing young man and makes the most of his situations. I love Dane, admire him, and can't wait to watch him grow to the fine man I know he will be.

Wow! Our bodies are amazing aren't they!I think Dane is very brave too! My dad still talks about his famous rescue and dragging himself to help. He is a hero in our family!
That's quite the plate. I am so excited for Dane to be able to run and play and not worry about his leg. I really like Dane.
wow dane is a trooper! he really does have a story like joseph smith, huh? it's unbelieveable what our bodies can do to help improve our quality of life. our heavenly father sure did a nice job of putting them all together to work so well! :)
that's some awesome hardware too! he should do something cool with them to show off to his kids and grandkids a long time from now! (wow, what a thought, dane a dad and grandpa!)
