Our 4th fun begins the night before with a parade. Everyone brings a bag to hold all the candy they are hoping for. Of course our favorite part is when we see someone we know. Here Pete dances down the road with the hs show choir.
Saturday morning began with ringing the bell in the American Legion bell tower, setting up at the stadium for the evening program and coming home to a delicious breakfast prepared by Twinkle.
Doodle was especially glad to see some presents to unwrap. She was easily satisfied with few things and lots of well wishes.Park fun included our stake president on the dunking booth. What a great guy. He took more than his share of dips in some rather murky looking water.

We ran running races, 3-leg races, and sack races. Tall one in the red below.
Twinkle pulling into the lead, almost. As far as we could tell she and tall one tied in our family race.
The egg toss is one of our favorites. Twink and Doodle did pretty good considering Doodles closed eyes.
She usually missed but the egg didn't break.
We had a great cook out at our house. Tons of yummy food. I think everyone was more mellow this year though because there was less playing and the water fight only involved the kids. No mean uncles this time.
Doodle ended up with nurse maids elbow. We couldn't seem to help her but one of our guests knew what to do and taught me. That little click as I straightened her arm sure made the rest of the day lots more fun.
We got to help in the planning and execution of the patriotic program that night. It was great. We had short speeches, music, and retired a huge flag. It felt really good to be a part of something so great.
The children's choir was a lot of fun for Sac. Here he is a Yankee Doodle boy.
The flag was honorably retired by scouts (including my two scouts) and our local military. Mr. O built the "alter" that made burning possible on the field as well as manned the propane tank. It was very moving. Probably a new tradition. The save the eye hooks from the flag after burning and present them to a notable member of the community. This veteran was honored and received the hooks.
Fireworks at the stadium with the music were great. They really did a fine show. My little ones were quite tired by this point but Doodle got her birthday fireworks and loved her day.
Poor Sunny slept through the program and still couldn't wake up.I had four kids sleeping in church today as well as their dad and one just spacing off with his eyes open missing his cue to lead the closing song.

Oh my gosh mom, that video of Simeon is hillarious. I don't know where you keep coming up with your nick names, but whenever you change them i get confused. Glad Doodle had a good birthday, and it looked like a great 4th of July, way to go Pres. Hintze, in his suit and tie and everything...what a trooper.
I know! That video! And Pres. Hintze in his suit! I wonder how Sis. Hintze felt about that... and Twinkle's face during the sack race! And Pete missing his cue to lead the music... Sounds like a fun weekend!!!!!
That video is too funny! He looks like a newborn puppy who can't open his eyes yet. Did you finally put him out of his misery?
Persistence had problems with her elbow when she was little. You have to be careful because once it happens the first time it will happen over and over again.
Looks like a great & "exhausting" 4th of July...at least we know Simeon had a great time!! We hope Debbie had a wonderful birthday too!!
